Sadness is a normal natural part of the human experience and all of us at some point will experience it. Depression might be described as a prolonged experience of sadness, but might also include feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, or anxiousness. If you are struggling with depresion you might begin to have difficulty with everyday activities, loss of motivation, sleeplessness, and/or low energy. You might also be experiencing restlessness, difficulty concentration or paying attention, and a loss of interest in previously pleasurable activities. Depression is an illness that affects your brain and hormones which means you may also experience physical symptoms including body aches and fatigue. Depression and other mood disorders are very common (about 1 in 8 people will experience this in their lifetime) and it is treatable. Therapy has been proven to be an effective option in the treatment of many types of depression including Major Depressive Disorder, Seasonal Depression, and Situational Depression.
